Author Guidelines

Guidelines for Authors

Author Guidelines
Authors are kindly asked to follow all author guidelines. If guidelines have not been followed, the paper may be returned with a request for changes. The editorial review process will not start until after the paper has been revised to meet the author guidelines. Note: Open Journal Systems cannot currently handle document files of size more than 1.5 Mb. If you have high resolution images or graphs, then please remove them from paper and upload them separately as supplementary files. You may also need to convert them to compressed jpeg format files which can later be embedded in parent document.

Format
The manuscript should:

  • Be written in English
  • Be based on the instructions provided below
  • Employ italics, rather than underlining to provide emphasis
  • Should integrate figures and tables within the text
  • Provide the name for each author (e.g. Evelyn JS Hovenga), as they will appear in the paper.
  • Affiliations should be provided for each author on the title page. Detailed contact details should be provided at the end of the paper in the Correspondence section. Qualifications and appointment may be provided.
  • Unless otherwise indicated, the editor/s will assume that the first author is the author for correspondence.
Presentation of Papers
Normally research papers will be presented in the following manner:
  • Title: Conveys the nature of the paper but does not normally exceed 15 words.
  • Abstract:Is a short resume (not exceeding 250 words) of the paper, including objectives, methods, results, discussion, and conclusion.
  • Key Words: Up to six essential words. MeSH keywords are recommended.
  • Introduction: Should establish relevance of either the research or the position taken by the author/s. A literature review should be provided either here or as a separate section.
  • Methods: Should describe and justify the approach taken and demonstrate rigor.
  • Results: Describe the results and their relevance as fully as possible.
  • Discussion:Should supply support for the argument including ideas central to the argument, opposition to the argument and ramifications. Limitations should also be discussed.
  • Conclusion: The conclusion should be short and concise, drawing the essence of the findings together.
  • References: Prudent use of references is required and the Referencing Style of the journal has to be followed.
Tables
Tables should be:
  • Integrated into the submitted document.
  • captioned above the table
  • Should NOT be submitted as an image, but as Word/RTF-Table
  • subtitled with all units of measurement (metric units).
  • cited in the text as e.g. Table 1.
Figures, Photos, Illustrations
Figures, photos, illustrations and so forth should be:
  • Of reproducible quality and attached in .TIF format or in .EPS format. It should have a minimum resolution of 300 dpi.
  • Be also Integrated into the submitted document at the appropriate place.
  • Accompanied by a clear legend or key, if necessary.
  • Presented with metric units.
  • Captioned below the figures
  • Cited in the text as e.g. Figure 1.

Glossary
Technical language should be accompanied by a comprehensive glossary of terms used. Entries in the glossary should be presented in alphabetical order.

Referencing Style
References are a valuable part of papers. All references must be cited in the paper and adhere to the examples given in the template. In the text, number the references consecutively in the order in which they first appear, using Arabic numerals. If not covered by these examples and in doubt please adhere to the Uniform Requirements style by the National Library of Medicine (NLM) for its databases. For samples of reference citation formats, please consult the National Library of Medicine web site.

Permission to reproduce borrowed material
Written permission to reproduce borrowed material for example illustrations, tables or photographs must be obtained from the original publishers and submitted with the manuscript. Borrowed material should be acknowledged: “Reproduced by kind permission of ...(publishers) ... from ... (reference)”.

Conflicts of Interest
All conflicts of interest should be declared in a section in the paper entitled "Conflicts of Interests".

 

Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

  1. The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  2. The submission file is in Microsoft Word, RTF, or WordPerfect document file format.
  3. When available, the URLs to access references online are provided, including those for open access versions of the reference. The URLs are ready to click (e.g., http://pkp.sfu.ca).
  4. The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  5. The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines, which is found in About the Journal.
  6. If submitting to a peer-reviewed section of the journal, the instructions in Ensuring a Blind Review) have been followed.
  7. Publication Fees:

    Authors please note that manuscripts selected for publication will be charged an Article Processing fee of US $350.

    For those Authors residing in developing countries, this fee may be waived on a case by case basis. An opportunity to request a waiver will be presented prior to completing your submission.

Author Fees

This journal charges the following author fees.

Article Processing Fee: 350.00 (USD)
Authors please note that manuscripts accepted for publication will be charged a publication fee of US $350 to cover all overhead expenses, PubMed Central conversion charges and PubMed indexing.  This journal does not have submission charges.

For those Authors residing in developing countries, this fee may be exempted on a case by case basis. All other Authors will be required to pay the article publishing fee upon acceptance of the manuscript for publication.  Your manuscript will not be released for publication until payment has been received.
